How to operate the program

First, it is necessary to download SetFSB for Windows and start the application on the computer. Users are to find out the model of the clock generator for a correct configuration. It is much easier to visit the website of the manufacturer and find out the installed model. Therefore, the user is aware of the model of the clock generator and the program is started. The next step is to choose PLL value corresponding to user’s model.

Users need to test the generator to determine the current clock frequency. In the application window, one clicks the Get FSB button. After a short test, the current value appears in the Current Frequency line. In the field Select Frequency there will also be displayed the frequency value and both indicators will be still the same. The second field corresponds to the new frequency that users are going to set.

Navigate the CPU Details Fast

Choose the clock generator which corresponds to your computer’s motherboard. Select the “Get FSB” button. After you do that, the program shows you the frequency of your PCI device, AGP device, DDDR device, and FSB device. The dedicated sliders let you adjust these values to what you want them to be.


Consistently Monitor the System Parameters

It is strongly recommended to monitor the temperature indicators of the CPU and its cores after the changes in the value. In case of a critical excess of the accessible threshold it is possible to reduce the frequency and temperature. Otherwise, the processor simply burns out. That is why such precautions are necessary. Users can use a CoreTemp utility for this purpose. CoreTemp is a powerful program to monitor processor temperature. It can display a temperature of each individual core of every processor. In addition, users are able to observe temperature fluctuation in real time with different workloads. There are also programs with advanced features such as AIDA64. The main thing is if the applications show peak loads exceeding at least one indicator for one core, the frequency should be reduced. It is also essential to remember that the reduction should be in limited steps, it is not recommended to reduce immediately the whole range to the original values.

    Hi i was just given a program called setFSB i think its a overclocker for the cpu but i don’t know ?

    Anyone know what this dose i see in the setting of the program there is a G73JH setting and if it is a over clocker i don’t think i will use it.

    A friend payed for the key to use but is don’t work on his laptop i guess so he emailed me the program and key.

    With SETFSB you simply raise the PLL and test every couple of mhz by using something like Prime 95 to make sure it does not lock up or BSOD. As you have the 720qm like me you will start at 139PLL or 153PLL depending if you have turbo mode on. Work your way up and as above you will gradually reach a point where things start not responding, gadgets and programs start crashing and you eventually BSOD. For me that is around 187PLL although my overclock ability as per my sig link of 2ghz is a lot higher than the norm and I usually hang around 185PLL to remain stable. Remember what your highest clock is and drop it down 4 or 5mhz once you have rebooted from the BSOD and then stress and test the PLL to make sure its stable, if not drop it a few more.

    (SETFSB will reset back to default 139PLL if you crash or restart your computer)

    IMPORTANT: have a read through this and apply this fix if you plan to o/c the CPU as Windows 7 has an adverse effect which needs correcting with a simple timing fix applied through DOS prompt using administrator settings. All compliments go to Unclewebb for this fix and his continued support with CPU overclocking.

    Overclocks are limited by voltage and thanks to Asus it would appear because of hardwiring these cannot be changed so as long as you have good temps at the moment or good paste you wont really need to worry about the small increase in temperature, but use HWINFO to make sure everything is running as it should by using the sensors. Also every chip is different so do not expect to reach what others have or expect to reach more, as Tijo has explained on another recent overclocking post that chips are put through certain tests to make sure they can handle the stock clocks, voltage, watts, etc (called binning) and if they pass the tests they are allowed into the OEM production world, they do not necessarily test for the chip to reach the sort of output we aim for which in my case is excessive and im nearing the point of attaching a car battery to the GPU/CPU.
