Description of Phoenix WinPhlash

Phoenix WinPhlash is a program for backing up, flashing or updating the BIOS of your system. You can write a new BIOS to a flash chip, specify flags to change the update process, override DMI strings in the current BIOS with or without flashing the new BIOS image, and display a list of supported parts of flash.

The only reason you need to update your BIOS is when your computer has compatibility issues with other hardware, or issues caused by the wrong version of the BIOS currently installed. The old adage applies to updating BIOS and drivers: "If it doesn't break, don't fix it." Downgrading BIOS is not something people usually do, but there are times when an older BIOS performs better than the new / current one and you need to downgrade while waiting for a newer and more stable BIOS.
